Annual Reporting

Except where required by regulators, all ISS reporting is annual. Only Assigned Risk Automobile, North Carolina Voluntary Automobile & North Carolina Mobilehomes are required to be reported quarterly. Voluntary Automobile can be reported on either an annual or quarterly basis. Larger carriers may benefit from quarterly Automobile reporting so they can get more frequent feedback on the quality of their data.

ISS collects premium, paid losses, and outstanding losses in the same submission. Thus, for annually reported lines, instead of making 12 filings (4 quarters x 3 money types), a company would make 1 filing per insurance line to ISS.

Minimal amount of detail collected

ISS only collects those data elements required to fulfill statistical agent reporting requirements and certain data call reporting requirements. Companies do not need to spend time capturing, processing, and correcting errors on transactional ratemaking level detail.

Infrequent coding changes

Implementing coding changes can be time-consuming and expensive, as companies may need to make changes to policy and claims systems all the way through back-end systems. ISS only makes changes to its Statistical Plans when made necessary by state insurance departments, AIPSO, or the North Carolina Rate Bureau. On average, ISS makes 2 to 3 coding changes a year.

Outstanding customer service

We pride ourselves on our customer service:

  • The ISS service standard is to respond to questions on the same or next business day.

  • For newly affiliated companies, ISS offers a Customer Support Program, where we can assign an individual or team to walk a company through each ISS process, ranging from what codes to report to how to make a final submission. There is no charge for this service.

  • For existing subscribers, if our primary company contact changes, we offer a free orientation to their replacement at their convenience.

  • ISS holds periodic webinars on specific topics and a virtual twice-a-year Statistical Reporting Workshop, which is a two half-day course on ISS reporting. The webinars and Workshop are free to ISS subscribers.

  • On the password-protected section of the ISS website are various tutorials and helpful hints to assist companies with their reporting.

  • ISS publishes a quarterly newsletter that highlights requirements, insights, and reporting tips.

  • Finally, at least once every two years, someone from ISS management checks in with each subscriber group for feedback on ISS services and relationship.
